# Billing subscription lifecycle

> Understand how Remapdb applies billing changes, how cancellation timing works, and how subscription status affects feature access.

Use this page to understand billing timing in Remapdb: when changes apply now, when they are scheduled, and what happens when payment fails.

## How plan changes are applied

When you start a plan update from **Settings > Billing**, Remapdb uses one of these paths:

* Checkout flow in Stripe for accounts without a paid subscription.
* Immediate in-app change with proration, and any amount due charged now.
* Scheduled change at current period end.

The exact behavior depends on your current plan, target plan, billing cycle.

| Change type                    | Timing and charge behavior                                                   |
| ------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Higher-cost paid-plan change   | Immediate. Proration is calculated, and any amount due is charged now.       |
| Lower-cost paid-plan change    | Scheduled for current period end. Current paid plan stays active until then. |
| Paid plan to Free              | Scheduled for current period end.                                            |
| Monthly to Yearly cycle switch | Immediate. Billing anchor resets to now and proration is applied.            |
| Yearly to Monthly cycle switch | Scheduled for current period end.                                            |

## Scheduled change guard

If a future change already exists, Remapdb blocks additional plan updates.

To continue:

1. Open **Settings > Billing**.
2. Click the **Cancel scheduled change** button.
3. Confirm the action.
4. Start your new plan update again.

## How cancellation works in Remapdb

In Remapdb, cancellation from a paid plan is handled as a scheduled downgrade to Free at period end.

1. Open **Settings > Billing**.
2. Click the **Update subscription** button.
3. In the pricing modal, click the **Downgrade** button.
4. Submit the required reason and optional feedback.
5. Confirm the downgrade scheduling action.

After scheduling:

* You keep paid access until the current period end date.
* Remapdb shows scheduled-change messaging in **Status** and **Renew date**.
* At period end, the account moves to Free behavior.

  When you move to a lower plan or to Free, Remapdb keeps your existing paid-feature settings.\
  Some paid controls become unavailable while your plan does not include them, but their previous configuration stays saved.\
  If you upgrade again later, those saved settings become available again.

## Cancel a scheduled downgrade

If you change your mind before period end:

1. Open **Settings > Billing**.
2. Click the **Cancel scheduled change** button.
3. Confirm the release action.
4. Verify your current paid plan remains active.

## Payment failure lifecycle impact

If payment issues are not resolved, Remapdb can move the subscription to a non-paying state. In that case, subscription will fall back to Free-tier behavior and paid features will be removed.
