# Language and localization

> Choose the widget language your visitors see and control automatic language detection.

Use this page to control which language your widget opens in.

## Where to change this

1. Click the [**Settings**](https://app.remapdb.com/widget/settings) item in the Widget section of the main navigation.
2. Go to the **Language** section.

## What each setting means

### Default language

This is the main language your widget uses.

Use this when you want one consistent language for most visitors.

### Detect automatically

When this is enabled, Remapdb tries to show the widget in each visitor's browser language.

Simple example:

* Your default language is English.
* A visitor's browser language is German.
* The widget opens in German if German is supported in your widget setup.

If Remapdb cannot use the visitor language, it falls back to your **Default language**.

## Supported widget languages

The embedded widget is available in 21 languages:

* Bulgarian
* Simplified Chinese
* Croatian
* Danish
* Dutch
* English
* Estonian
* Finnish
* French
* German
* Hungarian
* Italian
* Latvian
* Lithuanian
* Norwegian Bokmål
* Norwegian Nynorsk
* Portuguese
* Russian
* Spanish
* Swedish
* Turkish

Hungarian appears as **Magyar** in the widget language selector.

  Vehicle names and technical vehicle data use English when the vehicle database does not have content in the selected widget language.

## How Remapdb chooses the language

1. If **Detect automatically** is enabled, Remapdb tries the visitor browser language.
2. If browser language is within the supported languages, Remapdb uses it.
3. If not, Remapdb uses your **Default language**.

## Step-by-step setup

1. In **Default language**, choose the language you want as your baseline.
2. In **Detect automatically**, enable or disable the toggle based on your preference.
3. Wait for save confirmation.
4. Open the live page and test once.

## Quick testing checklist

* Open the live widget page and confirm text appears in your expected default language.
* If **Detect automatically** is enabled, test with a browser that uses a different language.

## Common mistakes

1. Testing only in preview instead of a live embedded page.
2. You test with a browser language that is not supported.
